Ubisoft in the Spotlight Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, October 28 2008
Publication of Ubisoft's financial statement recently has thrown the publisher into the limelight, with various industry commentators finding plenty to compliment the Ghost Recon publisher with. With a £1.5 billion revenue total demonstrating an increase of 43% over last years figures, Ubisoft's results appear to buck the current economy trends. As NG4's breakdown shows, the Nintendo DS accounts for more Ubisoft sales than any other platform, with the big three consoles left fighting for the scraps.

Next Ghost Recon Merging with End War? Posted by Rocky on Friday, October 17 2008
Australian site Gameplayer.com had an interesting chat with a lead programmer at Ubisoft his week. With Ubisoft buying the Tom Clancy name for its series of games it was clear Ubisoft had big plans for all their Tom Clancy titles - now that vision is a little bit clearer as according to Gameplayer's interview the Ubisoft Tom Clancy universe is to merge, bringing all the titles home to one combined experience. The next Ghost Recon, and also Rainbow Six are included, with End War being the vehicle to make this all happen. Some of the details in the interview may be speculative, but this is definately something to look out for. Read the full Ghost Recon / End War Super Game Merger interview here. Forum discussion here.

Nvidia PhysX GRAW 2 Posted by Rocky on Thursday, August 28 2008
Until recently the only way to enjoy the advanced physics used for explosions and environemntal effects in GRAW 2 was to have a dedicated PhysX card installed on your PC, or used a processor sapping xml hack. Back in February 2008 Nvidia announced they were going to release drivers that would permit 8800 series upwards to enjoy PhysX without the need for a dedicated card. Earlier this month the driver pack was released, as detailed in our forums here. In addition to the extra effects, they also unlocked the Ageia Island map. How the GRAW 2 maps perform with PhysX set to extreme in the options, will vary greatly depending on the power of our graphics card, but to see the extra effects Thales has posted some videos in three posts starting here. For the very latest drivers see this post by Pave Low.

Ghost Recon Campaigns Posted by Rocky on Monday, July 21 2008
I've just finished housekeeping the Custom Ghost Recon 1 Campaigns section of our Ghost Recon downloads. There's 72 custom mission packs for download, that's a few kilobytes under 4 Gigabytes in total! That amounts to an amazing 415 individual missions!
Some of those were found lurking on my hard-drive so there might be some in there even the most die hard Ghost Recon veterans may not have seen before. If you can't download 4Gb of files check this discussion for a DVD compilation.

GRIN in the News Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, July 9 2008
GRAW developer GRIN has been getting some airtime recently. There's a write up at Gamasutra detailing a talk they gave at a recent conference. There's also a series of videos on Youtube detailing GRIN's history via a Gamereactor interview. Part 1 has Bo explaining where GRIN started and details on their first major title, Ballistics. Part 2 covers Phoenix Rising, Vultures, Unknown, Ghost Recon AW and some straight talking from Bo. If you only have time to watch one of these, spare 7 minutes for this episode, not only does it include Ghost Recon AW, but also an interesting swipe (?) at Bioshock. Hardcore fans will get a real kick out of Ghost Recon section though.... Part 3 brings up to date with their current project, Bionic Commando and also the future as they have scooped a top drawer brand although wouldn't reveal what it is. Bo also emphasises why GRIN love independence and won't be selling out to any major publishers anytime soon. There's plenty in there that will draw some comments, so feel free to add your thoughts in our forums here.

New Teaser from Ubi Posted by Rocky on Friday, March 28 2008
The appearance of a mysterious smouldering dossier on Ubisoft's Ghost Recon website has fans pondering its meaning. Ubisoft marketing are starting to show more and more interest in viral marketing, fans will remember the End War campaign started in a similar fashion.
The burning folder appears as a flash movie shortly after the Ghost Recon page has loaded. If you look hard enough you can see some clues, a number 42, characters S08, and what looks like a smal circular logo or stamp. Check the forum link below on our thoughts about the S08 marking. The sudden and simultaneous appearance of a new Ubisoft forum, in the General section, called MACSAT7 Recovery fuels speculation. Make your guess in our forums here.
